training and cultural learning in preparation for mass production
Employees of Ultium CAM,
POSCO Future M’s Canadian cathode materials joint venture, visited a war
memorial to pay their respects and participate in volunteer activities.
Twenty-three Ultium CAM employees, who were in Korea for technical training,
visited the Monument for the Participation of Canada in the Korean War on
October 2 to pay tribute to fallen soldiers and strengthen ties between the two
nations by participating in environmental cleanup activities around the site.
Ultium CAM is a joint venture established by POSCO Future M and GM in
Bécancour, Quebec, Canada, in 2022 for the production of cathode materials.
The Monument for the Participation of Canada in the Korean War, located in
Bukmyeon, Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, was erected in 1975 to honor the
Canadian forces who fought as part of the UN forces during the Korean War, to
recognize their sacrifice in the Battle of Gapyeong, and to strengthen friendship
between the two nations.
Canada deployed more than 27,000 troops during the Korean War, with 516 killed
in action and 1,042 wounded. The Battle of Gapyeong, fought from April 23 to
25, 1951, saw the 27th British Commonwealth Brigade, composed of Canadian,
Australian, New Zealand, and British forces, successfully halt Chinese troops
advancing toward Seoul.
Ultium CAM employees visited Korea in September to prepare for mass production
at their Canadian cathode materials plant. They received hands-on training in
operational techniques at facilities including the Pohang cathode materials
plant and learned POSCO Group’s practices. They also experienced Korean culture
through various programs before concluding their visit with volunteer work at
the Monument for the Participation of Canada in the Korean War.
“Visiting Korea for this technical training made me feel proud to be part of
Ultium CAM, a global company,” said Julien Cataud, Production Supervisor at
Ultium CAM. “I will contribute to the success of our business based on what I
learned through the on-site training and volunteer activities.”
POSCO Future M has maintained its commitment to honoring those who served their
country by organizing memorial cleanup volunteer activities at Seoul National Cemetery
and Yeongcheon Memorial Park in June, during the Month of Patriots and
Veterans, and by hosting events for national merit recipients.
