Social Contribution Activity
Global volunteer Week
Since 2010, POSCO Group has been operating Global volunteer Week, a special volunteer service week participated in by POSCO Group employees in 53 countries on six continents where the group does business. All employees, including CEO, from business sites across the country participated in creating a green ecological city for future generations.
‘Green Gym’ Activity
POSCO FUTURE M continuously conducts environmental cleanup activities to preserve biodiversity near its business sites. To encourage the participation of employees, we operate ‘Green Gym' activities such as planting trees, pruning, and making biotope with Gyeongbuk Forest for Life to protect ecosystems and improve employees' physical and mental health.
Cleanup activities for Oceans
In Pohang, where our headquarter is located, employees collected marine waste from Cheongnim Beach, Dogu Beach, Yeongildae Beach and Wolpo Beach. POSCO FUTURE M is committed to contributing to the sustainable development of society, cooperating with local communities, and recognizing the importance of environmental preservation.
Green Dream Environment School
Since 2013, POSCO FUTURE M has operated the Green Dream Environment School to teach 1,200 local vulnerable children about the importance of energy and environmental protection. Employees
became daily lecturers and provided participating children with hands-on experience building electric vehicles and wireless charging stations while explaining the eco-friendliness of EVs and the features of rechargeable batteries at a level that the children could understand. We plan to conduct experience programs to help children understand the significance of responding to climate change while continuing social contribution projects for future generations.
‘Didim Seed Bankbook’
Since March 2021, we have supporting Didim Seed Bankbooks to 100 selected children in Pohang, Gumi, Gwangyang, and Sejong. KRW 50,000 per month is sent to each of these bankbooks for one year, amounting to KRW 120 million, along with a matching grant provided by the government.
‘Happy Box’ Delivery for Local Children
POSCO FUTURE M made and delivered 200 'Happy Boxes' to local children’s centers in Pohang, Gwangyang, Gumi, and Yeosu. Each box
contains thermal clothing and school supplies such as pencils and notebooks. Employees made the thermal items by themselves, with 282 employees participating.
‘Food Bank’ for the Under-privileged
POSCO FUTURE M always pays attention to the vulnerable people near its business sites. We
operate food banks to provide daily necessities and food to seniors living alone and recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security Program. Starting with the first location in Pohang City in 2020, we now operate food banks in Gwangyang and Sejong as well, with 350 people receiving support. Our employees deliver necessary items in person to those unable to visit us due to limited mobility.
Bread donation program
We run a program to provide the “bread of care” made by local volunteers to more than 500 senior citizens who live alone and experience hardships or melancholic depression. The volunteers visit
the recipients’ house every week delivering the bread and engaging in conversations with them to help maintain emotional stability.
Transportation Convenience for Severely-Handicapped People
People with severe developmental disabilities have suffered from stress and mental health deterioration due to the rapid changes caused
by COVID-19 in our society. Pohang Ivy Day Care Center had planned external activities to alleviate these issues, but ran into difficulties due to its aged vehicles. POSCO FUTURE M donated a car to support their safe social activities and helped secure the right to safe mobility for people with disabilities.
